“Why Do We Seek the
Living Among the Dead?”
Luke 24:1-8
{1} But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. {2} They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, {3} but when they went in, they did not find the body. {4} While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. {5} The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. {6} Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, {7} that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again." {8} Then they remembered his words
Greetings!
These resurrection words will soon be heard around the world. If you are reading this article just after publication, then we have many things before us. We will travel down the streets of Jerusalem as our Lord makes a triumphal entry on Palm Sunday. His entrance will be marked with humility but will be decisive with intent. He comes to face death on a cross. The gathering on Maundy Thursday in the Upper Room and standing at the foot of the cross on Good Friday work to make the journey complete. If we fail to relive and remember the story of the empty tomb of Easter, we may lose its power and clarity of what God has really done for humanity.
One of my clear goals in our ministry here at Holy Trinity is to encourage you to live out Holy Week in both recognition and worship. The busy lifestyles which we have adopted whisper lies that we are just to busy to even stop for Holy Week. The angels ask the women to remember rather than to stand in the graveyards. Anything which takes us away from the Holy Week story is death dealing. I am eager to spend Holy Week with you. Come and remember and then be amazed at the freedom which once again comes to memory on Easter morning. No longer will we seek the living among the dead but will experience real life. This is the promise. This is the gift!
